I opened my Instagram DMs and found a message from one of my longtime followers. She wrote to tell me she wanted to commission a design project for a new apartment in Moscow, at Neva Towers—a place she and her husband had just bought together.

She owns a chain of luxury real estate agencies, and he’s a financial analyst. They’re both young, stylish, and incredibly successful. They love Marvel's Avengers movies, psychology, business, modern art, traveling, and, of course, each other.

Funnily enough, we first met in Kazakhstan, in Almaty, where they had flown from Moscow on business.

We discussed their preferences, budget, and looked through photos and videos of their future apartment, finally settling on the overall concept and style for the interior.

"Svetlana, I’m so happy we met," she said. "I know you’re the one who’ll create our dream interior."
In March, she flew to New York to open a new agency, while he went to Dubai on a business trip. They decided to start the design project when they were both back in Moscow.

But then, the pandemic hit, and the borders were closed. What was supposed to be a couple of weeks apart turned into two months living on different continents. They decided to put the project on hold temporarily.
When they finally returned to Moscow, their outlook and vision for the apartment had completely transformed.

After spending two months in the US and UAE, they both craved a calming, natural aesthetic in their home—something with earthy colors, simple forms, and a minimalist vibe.
As inspiration, they sent us photos of misty mountain landscapes, golden-beige rocky surfaces, and frosty lakes.

It was amazing timing, really, because I had just been writing a lot in my blog about how the pandemic had dramatically shifted client preferences in interior design. The lockdown made people long for freedom, nature, a natural atmosphere, peaceful spaces, and a sense of security.
When I sent them the first sketches for approval, their feedback was absolutely glowing!

"This is exactly what we were missing—we just couldn’t put it into words! The interior feels like modern art, but it’s also so natural and soulful," she said. "I can’t wait to move into this apartment!"

In the living room, there’s a standout feature—a stone wall behind the sofa adorned with art objects. Take note, all the colors and shades we used were actually drawn from the nature photos they provided as references.
As you enter, you step right into the living room and kitchen. The kitchen is crafted from travertine stone with very clean, simple lines. It almost looks like part of the wall or a large sideboard. I didn’t want it to feel like a typical kitchen, so it wouldn’t take away from the view of the living room. Yet, it has all the necessary modern appliances and storage systems—just cleverly hidden away.
Down the hallway, you’ll find the study. It’s a small room, but it has a large floor-to-ceiling window, and we managed to fit in a steel shelving unit for their art collection and a comfortable desk.
Further down the hallway, you enter the Master Bedroom and Master Bathroom, with a glass partition between them to let natural light into the bathroom. The bedroom has everything you need: a bed, a vanity, and a large wardrobe.
And in the bathroom, we went with a freestanding tub in a classic shape, while the rest of the details are very modern. There’s a large handmade marble sink, a spacious and comfortable shower, and, of course, a toilet.
