MOSCOW 2022

apartment interior project in a modern style

SVETLANA ROMA DESIGN
PROJECT HISTORY
The main requests from the clients were:

Create a spacious apartment for three people, with an open kitchen that can be separated from the living room when needed.

Design a large master suite that seamlessly integrates the bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and walk-in wardrobe. The rooms shouldn’t feel separate; instead, these spaces should flow effortlessly into one another.

How we brought these ideas to life can be seen in the Architectural layout below.
Project Name: Neutral-Toned Contemporary Apartment
Location: Moscow
Client: Margarita Bylinina
Project Type: 160m² Apartment, Open-Plan Layout
Design by: Svetlana Roma Design Studio
Architectural layout "BEFORE" redesigned.
Architectural layout "AFTER" redesigned.
  • In the redesigned layout, you can see that to the left of the apartment entrance is the utility room. On the right, a wide corridor with built-in wardrobes leads to the guest bathroom, and straight down the hallway, you’ll find the combined living room and kitchen.
  • We extended the kitchen by incorporating the loggia, bringing in more natural light. An obvious bonus is the addition of a breakfast bar by the window, where the windowsill and countertop form a single, continuous surface.
  • The study, with its bay window, and the master suite are positioned at the far end of the right side of the apartment, away from the main entrance and the bustling kitchen and living area.
  • We separated the master bathroom from the bedroom with glass partitions that can be made opaque with the flick of a switch, thanks to special Smart glass. From the bedroom, you can walk through a spacious walk-in wardrobe to reach the master bathroom and a separate toilet.

We also integrated the loggia into the kitchen to enhance the natural light and create an additional dining area with a bar by the window. The windowsill and countertop are designed as one seamless surface.
The most interesting and challenging feature to execute was the sliding partition between the living room and kitchen. This is a solid wall partition made of porcelain stoneware. When it closed, it transforms the space into two separate rooms: the kitchen and the living room.
To the left of the apartment entrance, we placed the utility room, while to the right, a wide corridor with built-in wardrobes leads to the guest bathroom, and straight ahead, you’ll find the combined living room and kitchen.
We positioned the home office with a bay window and the master suite at the far end of the right side of the apartment, away from the main entrance and the buzzy kitchen and living area.
The master bathroom is separated from the master bedroom by glass partitions that can be made opaque with the flick of a switch, thanks to the special Smart glass used.
From the master bedroom, you can walk through a spacious walk-in wardrobe to access the master bathroom and a separate room, which is the master toilet.

The child’s room was designed with growth in mind. To the right of the entrance, we installed shelving units with drawers. In the future, this area will accommodate a full-sized bed for the growing child, but for now, a small crib is placed by the window. When the time comes, the crib will be replaced with a desk (outlets have already been thoughtfully placed for this).
There was a particularly tricky corner to the right of the window, where we managed to fit a large wardrobe, cleverly “hiding” it behind wooden slat detailing.
